About my EP – “DISTRACTIONS”

Song 1 – “Currency of Peace”

Mood: This tune dives into the chaos amidst the modern-day circus of pings, dings, and every distraction imaginable. Each verse unveils a unique way we soak up these distractions like sponges, letting them infiltrate our minds. One layer at a time (depicted in each verse), becoming part of our very being.

Lyrics:

“Mindful distractions, silently play you.

Silent distractions, mindfully play you.

While you trade into the currency of peace.”

  • Prashanthi Sankaran -Vocals, Konnakol, Recording, Mixing, Mastering, Lyrics, composition
  • Rohit Sarkar – Guitars, Arrangement

Song 2 – “Set me free”

Mood: This melody captures the tumultuous experience of being swept up in a whirlwind, yearning for a magical rescue, to be set free. Later it offers a serene revelation: true freedom is a journey within.

Lyrics:

“Set me free.

I am free.”

  • Prashanthi Sankaran – Vocals, arrangement, composition.
  • Kaustubh Bhat, Rajeev Ramesh – Guitars
  • Srilekha vedula  -Harmony vocals & arrangement
  • Zainab Lax – Harp
  • Shimmr Studios – Mixing, Mastering

Song 3 – “RB24”

Mood: Inspired by daily commutes in Germany. Footsteps, delay announcements, train doors open, close, but nothing changes –  reflecting frustration with the inefficient system. The song describes a desire to wake up, create change, and move forward.

Lyrics:

“Wake up,

Hold up,

Speak up,

Speed up,

Wake up and movin’ on.”

  • Prashanthi Sankaran – Vocals, Arrangement, Composition, Mixing, Mastering
  • Special appearance: Detusche Bahn (the German train)

How this music was made

This EP is really about the invisible threads that connected Prshanthi and these musicians, pulling them together across time and space. Rajeev and I went to school together. Back in 2008, Rohit, Srilekha, and Prashanthi jammed at NITK Music Club in Surathkal, India. Fast-forward 15 years— reunion in Texas. Deep talks, day-job reflections, and the one thing that never changes: the instinct to create your own sound. Prashanthi crossed paths with Kaustubh (guitar) and Zainab (Harp) in  Germany. They instinctively understood not just the music, but were people who just get each other.

🎸 Rohit <@redgovmusic>
Rohit sent over some doodles in Raag Yaman, leaving that unsettling Lydian scale loop in my head. Nex thing i know, the song—Currency of Peace—started taking shape.

🪈 Zainab <@zainab.lax>
Zainab doesn’t just play the harp—she paints with it.  She’s the kind of musicians who never leave a “Wanna collab?” text unanswered. Next, thing you see her magic in your inbox.

🎶 Srilekha <@lekha.sounds>
She’s got harmonies floating around in her head 24/7. All she needs is a tiny nudge, and BAM—the unexpected unfolds. Her details that makes a song unforgettable

🎼 Kaustubh
His riffs don’t just fill space, they tell stories. Apart his guitar solo, his biggest contribution to “Set me free” was asking the most important question: “So where is this interlude supposed to go? What is it supposed to mean?”

🎼Rajeev –  <jeev.89>

This connection goes right back to school days where Rajeev played the guitar, and me classical music. 5 years later we met again in Aachen, Germany – this time, in a band. 10 years later, we sit together to write music together.
